The Tees Transporter Bridge is the longest working transporter bridge in the world.
The bridge connects Middlesbrough, on the south bank of the River Tees, to Port Clarence, Stockton on the north bank. It is a transporter bridge, carrying a travelling 'car', or 'gondola', suspended from the bridge. The structure was considered the only suitable civil engineering solution to the problem of letting tall-masted ships safely pass upriver to Stockton and the docks.
The Bridge remains an iconic structure for Teesside and an important symbol of the areas long steel and engineering might.
